Car Rental Terms & Conditions
Fair, Transparent, and Simple. Read our policies before you drive.
1. Driver Eligibility & Documents
To rent a vehicle with Solisla, the main driver must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum Age: The driver must be at least 21 years old.
- Driving License: A valid original driving license held for a minimum of 1 year.
- Note: Digital copies or photocopies are not accepted for the contract.
- International Visitors: An International Driving Permit (IDP) is generally not required for short stays if your domestic license is written in Roman characters (e.g., English, French).
However, an IDP is mandatory if:
- If are staying in Mauritius for more than 4 weeks (as per local traffic regulations).
- Your license is in a non-Roman script (e.g., Arabic, Chinese, Russian).
2. booking, rates and payments
- Minimum Rental: Our standard minimum rental period is 3 days.
- Daily Rates: Rates are calculated on a 24-hour basis. (e.g., If you pick up at 10:00 AM, the day ends at 10:00 AM the following day).
- Reservation Payment: To secure your booking, we require a 25% deposit at the time of reservation.
- Balance Payment: The remaining balance is due upon delivery of the car. You can pay this balance via:
- Credit Card
- Cash (Mauritian Rupees or Euros)
3. Cancellation & Unforeseen Events
- Unforeseen Circumstances: In the event of cancellations caused by “force majeure” (e.g., global pandemics, severe weather restrictions), you are eligible for a full refund, minus a small service fee of €10 to cover administrative costs.
- Free Cancellation: You may cancel your reservation free of charge up to one week/7days before the scheduled pickup time.
- Late Cancellation: Cancellations made within 48 hours of pickup may incur a fee equivalent to 1 day’s rental.
- No-Show: If you fail to pick up the vehicle without prior notice, the reservation will be cancelled, and no refund will be issued.
4. Insurance Coverage
We want you to explore Mauritius with peace of mind. Here is exactly what our insurance covers:
- Accident Coverage:Â You are protected even if you are at fault, provided you complete the on-site “Agreed Statement of Facts” (Accident Form) with the other party.
5. Exclusions: When Insurance is Void
Important: If any of the following conditions are met, the insurance policy is voided, and the renter becomes fully responsible for all repair costs for all vehicles involved:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Reckless, illegal, or off-road driving.
- Using the vehicle for racing or unauthorized purposes.
- Driving without a valid license.
- Failure to Report: Failing to inform the Solisla team about an accident within 24 hours of the incident.
- Loss of Car Keys: Please be aware that the loss or theft of car keys is not covered by insurance. If keys are lost or damaged, the full cost of replacement (including keys, coding, and locks if necessary) will be charged to the renter.
6. Accident Procedure & Excess
If an accident occurs, here is the protocol:
- Immediate Action:Â Contact us immediately and we will guide you on the process to be followed.
- Refund Process: If the police or insurance report confirms you were not at fault, the excess will be refunded to you.
- Timeline: Police/Insurance reports can take up to 30 days to be issued. Once cleared, the bank refund process typically takes 14 to 21 days.
- A “Constat à l’amiable” (Agreed Statement of Facts) must be filled out if another vehicle is involved. Do not admit liability.
- Police must be notified if there are injuries, if one party doesn’t have hold a valid licence, insurance or Motor Vehicle Licence.
7. Vehicle Care & Usage Guidelines
To ensure a high standard for all our customers, we ask that you treat the vehicle with care.
- Cleaning Fee: Please return the vehicle in a reasonably clean condition (inside and out). If the vehicle requires special cleaning due to mud, sand, or stains, a cleaning fee of MUR 500 (or the equivalent in EUR/USD/GBP) will be deducted.
- No Smoking Policy: All Solisla vehicles are strictly non-smoking. This ensures a fresh environment for the next guest. Any evidence of smoking (including odors or burn marks) will result in restoration costs charged to the renter.
- Pet Policy: To maintain hygiene standards for all passengers, pets are not permitted in our vehicles.
- Road Conditions:Â Some secondary roads in Mauritius may have potholes or uneven surfaces. We strongly recommend slowing down to maneuver around them safely to prevent damage to the tires, rims, or suspension.
- Appropriate Use:Â Please note that standard rental cars are designed for paved roads only. Beaten paths, unpaved trails, and rough off-road terrain are not suitable for non-4×4 vehicles. Driving on such roads is done at your own risk.
8. Vehicle Condition & Maintenance
- Car Models: Please note that car models shown on the website are for illustrative purposes. We guarantee the category (e.g., Economy, SUV), but a similar or upgraded model may be provided depending on availability.
- Inspection: We strongly encourage customers to check the vehicle thoroughly and take photos before driving off. This protects both you and us.
- Renter Responsibility: During your rental, please monitor oil levels, tyre pressure, and coolant levels.
- Any wear and tear caused by negligence (e.g., driving on a flat tyre, ignoring engine warning lights) will be charged to the renter.
- Report Issues Instantly: If you notice a mechanical issue, report it immediately to avoid causing further damage. Failure to report promptly may void your eligibility for an excess refund.
9. fuel & mileage policy
- Same-to-Same: Please return the car with the same fuel level as when you picked it up.
- Missing Fuel: If the car is returned with less fuel, a fee of Rs 400 per missing fuel bar will be charged.
- Unlimited Mileage: Drive as much as you want! There are no distance limits on our rentals.
10. return policy
- Late Returns:Â We understand that traffic can be unpredictable. Our return policy is structured as follows:
- 0 – 1 Hour Delay:Â Free of charge.
- 1 – 4 Hours Delay: Charged at €10 per hour.
- Over 4 Hours Delay:Â A full day’s rental rate applies.
- Early Returns: Please note that no refunds are available for unused days if you choose to return the vehicle earlier than the booked date.
