Everything you need to know about Car Rentals, Airport Transfers, and Sightseeing Tours with Solisla.

Car Rental in Mauritius

To rent a vehicle with Solisla, you will need a valid original driving license held for at least one year, a passport or ID card, and a credit card for the security deposit. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is generally not required if your license uses Roman characters (like English or French).

In Mauritius, we drive on the left-hand side of the road, similar to the UK. Solisla offers a range of automatic transmission cars, which makes driving easier if you are used to right-hand traffic. Our fleet includes compact cars perfect for navigating narrow coastal roads in Grand Baie or Flic en Flac.

Yes, we provide a seamless meet-and-greet service at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (SSR) International Airport. A Solisla representative will meet you at the arrival hall—no waiting in long queues at rental counters. We can also deliver your rental car directly to your hotel or villa anywhere on the island.

All our rentals come with unlimited mileage, so you can explore the South Coast or Le Morne without worrying about extra costs. Our fuel policy is “Same-to-Same”—simply return the vehicle with the same fuel level as when you picked it up.

Yes, a standard security deposit of €475 is required to cover the insurance excess. This amount is temporarily blocked (not charged) on your credit card and is released upon the safe return of the vehicle. We offer transparent pricing with no hidden fees.

Private Airport Transfers

Your private driver will be waiting for you in the arrival hall holding a sign with your name. We track all flights in real-time, so even if your flight is delayed, your private airport transfer will be there when you land at SSR Airport.

Absolutely. The safety of your family is our priority. We provide baby seats and booster seats upon request free of charge (or for a small fee, depending on your policy). Please mention the age of your child when booking your airport transfer.

Don’t worry. We monitor flight arrivals at SSR International Airport using your flight number. There is no extra charge for flight delays. Your driver will adjust the pickup time automatically to ensure a stress-free arrival in Mauritius.

  • Standard Sedan: Ideal for 2 adults and 2 medium suitcases.
  • Family Minivan: Perfect for groups of 4-6 luggages
  • If you are carrying golf bags or surfboards for a trip to Le Morne Kite Beach, please let us know in advance so we can send a larger vehicle.

Sightseeing & Tours

Yes, unlike big bus tours, Solisla specializes in private sightseeing tours. You can book a dedicated vehicle and driver for the day. Whether you want to spend more time at the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden or stop for street food in Port Louis, you control the itinerary.

We highly recommend our South West Tour, which covers the Chamarel Seven Colored Earth, Alexandra Falls Viewpoint, and the Black River Gorges. For beach lovers, a speedboat trip to Ile aux Cerfs is essential.

Our standard pricing covers the private vehicle and driver. Entrance tickets (e.g., for Chamarel or Casela Nature Parks) and lunch are usually paid directly by you, giving you the flexibility to choose where to eat and which attractions to enter. If you want us to book the activities on your behalf, we’ll be glad to do so.

General Mauritius Travel Info

The local currency is the Mauritian Rupee (MUR). While many hotels and service providers accept Euros or Credit Cards, we recommend carrying some Rupees for local markets, street food, and tips.

Yes, you can purchase a tourist SIM card (Emtel or My.t) at the arrival hall of SSR Airport.

It depends on what you are looking for!

  • For swimming and sunsets: The West Coast (Flic en Flac) and North Coast (Trou aux Biches, Pereybere) offer calm, turquoise waters and are great for families.
  • For white sand and luxury: The East Coast (Belle Mare) is famous for its long, powdery white beaches and sunrise views.
  • For scenery and kitesurfing: The Le Morne area in the South West provides a dramatic backdrop of the UNESCO heritage mountain.

Beyond the beaches, the “Big Three” usually include:

  1. Charamel Seven Colored Earth and Waterfall in the south.
  2. Pamplemousses Botanical Garden to see the water lilies.
  3. Ile aux Cerfs: A catamaran cruise to this paradise island is essential.
  4. Don’t forget to try local Mauritian street food like Dholl Puri or Gateau Piment in Port Louis!

We recommend a minimum of 7 to 10 days. This gives you enough time to explore the North and South islands, enjoy a boat trip, and still have plenty of time to relax by the pool. If you plan to hike or do extensive water sports, 14 days is ideal.

Mauritius is a relatively small island (approx. 65km long and 45km wide).

  • North to South: Driving via the main highway takes about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • Coastal Road Trip: If you want to drive around the entire coastline for sightseeing, it is a full-day adventure (6-8 hours with stops). Our drivers at Solisla are experts at navigating these scenic coastal routes so you can relax and enjoy the view.

The famous “Underwater Waterfall” off the coast of Le Morne is actually a stunning optical illusion created by sand and silt deposits. Because it is an illusion, it is only visible from the air. To see it, you must book a helicopter tour or a seaplane flight. Solisla can help arrange transfers to the helipads in the south or directly from the North.
